Glow in the Dark Products Introduction
Glow in the Dark! refers to products which absorb and store surrounding light. They then release this stored light in the form of a glow, when it is dark. No additional power source needed. This makes Glow in the Dark products the most effective and reliable Emergency Lighting System.
All Glow in the dark products work well with light sources that have UV rays in them. Examples of such light sources are sunlight or UV Black lights. They also work with common everyday household lighting with blue rays in them. Fluorescent light sources have been found to be more effective than other light sources. This is because it contains slight traces of blue colour in them. This also means that besides UV Lights, any light source which gives out blue rays of light can effectively charge Glow in the Dark Products
The most important point to note is that Glow in the Dark products only need light to get charged up.
After being charged, the effects can only be seen in the dark.
The darker the place, the brighter the glow.
How do Glow in the Dark Products Work
Glow in the dark products have phosphorescence. That means they contain special substances called phosphors. Phosphors give off visible light after being energized. This means they have to soak up light for a while before they will glow in the dark. The reason they glow in the dark is because of the slow release of the absorbed light.
Fluorescent materials do this all at once, so when you shine UV light (from a torch or the Sun) on it, it absorbs the UV and then emits various colours depending on the phosphors itr contains.
Glow in the Dark products, like glow-in-the-dark powder, do their emitting much more slowly. This enables them to glow for hours after absorbing surrounding light.
Some glow products can only glow for a short time. These are made from zinc and can only glow for around 10 minutes. Newer glow products are made from strotium. These can glow brightly for hours.
